Although some research has attempted to integrate the technologies in different networks, it is still far from perfect. For example, 3GPP has developed the evolved packet systems by integrating the IP mobility management mechanism. However, the co-existence of IP mobility and LTE (Long Term Evolution) mobility management mechanisms incurs the problems of redundancy in function, complexity in system architecture, and inefficiency in performance, such as handover performance between heterogeneous radio accesses.
